Most Defense Contractors Are Not Ready

The Problem

The vast majority of organizations in the Defense Industrial Base handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) are nowhere near CMMC Level 2 compliance. The technical side gets attention — but the human and process side is where teams consistently stall.

Where Teams Stall
  • →Staff don't understand which controls apply to their roles
  • →SSP and POA&M documentation discipline is inconsistent
  • →ITSM processes lack the maturity NIST 800-171 requires
  • →No structured training plan across the team
[ What We Do ]

The Training & Readiness Layer

Aspen Transformation is not an assessor. We are the training and readiness layer — we prepare your team so your organization can meet its compliance obligations. We work alongside your assessors and implementers, not instead of them.

Control Awareness Training

Team-wide instruction on NIST SP 800-171 controls — who they apply to, what they require in practice, and how each role contributes to compliance.

Documentation Discipline

SSP and POA&M literacy for the team — understanding what the documents mean, who owns them, and how to keep them audit-ready. The paperwork side of compliance is where most teams fail.

ITSM Process Maturity

The ITIL-grounded process discipline — incident management, change enablement, access control practices — that forms the operational backbone CMMC Level 2 requires.

"The organizations I've worked with that struggle most with compliance aren't lacking technology — they're lacking team readiness. The controls exist. The people just haven't been trained to own them."

CMMC Readiness — Common Questions

Straight answers to what compliance buyers ask us most.

No — and that distinction matters. Aspen Transformation is the training and readiness layer. We prepare your team with the knowledge, documentation discipline, and process maturity required for CMMC Level 2. Formal certification is conducted by an authorized C3PAO (Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization). We get your team ready so the assessment goes smoothly.

CMMC Phase 2 enforcement is slated to begin November 10, 2026. After that date, defense contractors handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) will be required to demonstrate CMMC Level 2 compliance to remain eligible for DoD contracts. Readiness is typically a 6–18 month effort — which means organizations need to start now.

Realistically, 6–18 months depending on your organization's current maturity, team size, and existing ITSM processes. We begin with a readiness consultation to assess where your team stands and build a structured training roadmap from there.

We train the whole team. CMMC readiness is an organizational challenge — it requires consistent knowledge across your IT staff, management, and any personnel who handle CUI. We offer group training formats including virtual instructor-led sessions and on-site workshops for your full team.

Directly. The ITSM process maturity that ITIL 4 builds — incident management, change enablement, service desk discipline, documentation practices — is the same operational foundation that CMMC Level 2 requires. If your team has gone through ITIL training, you have a head start. We bridge the gap between ITSM maturity and compliance readiness.
